Copycat Recipes to Replace Goya and Other Brands

Boycotting Goya and Other Questionable Brands? You’ll Love These Copycats.

Goya

Goya is currently under fire as its CEO stated that he was “truly blessed” to be led by Donald Trump. Since Goya has been a staple in plenty of Latinx households, many are looking for alternatives. We all need a good adobo seasoning in our lives though. Here is a quick and easy recipe for their adobo seasoning.

2 tablespoons salt

1 tablespoon paprika

2 teaspoons ground black pepper

1 ½ teaspoons onion powder

1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano

1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon chili powder

Mix them all together, and you’re done!

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A has a long history of donating to Anti-LGBTQ Charities. The company has never really promised to stop donating to them, either. Unfortunately, you can’t find something comparable to Chick-fil-A sauce anywhere else. That is, until you whip up this recipe:

1/4 cup honey

2 tablespoons yellow mustard

1/4 cup barbecue sauce

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon dijon mustard

1/2 cup mayonnaise

Mix those ingredients. Let your sauce sit for 30 minutes to let those flavors come together.

Ben & Jerry’s

Ben & Jerry’s received loads of praise for supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, and has a history of being a progressive brand in many realms. But they also are on the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) list. BDS is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. They have denounced Ben & Jerry’s for having commercial ties to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. If that doesn’t sit right with you but you still need a chocolate chip cookie dough fix, check out their edible cookie dough recipe. Add it to your favorite ice cream base and enjoy.

8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick), room temperature

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tablespoons heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon kosher salt

1 cup flour

½ cup chocolate chips

First, heat the flour to make sure that it’s safe to eat. You’ll want to be sure that the flour reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add cream, vanilla, and salt. Then add the heat treated flour and mix. Fold in chocolate chips, and you’re done!

Will you be trying any of these out?
