5 Reasons Why Timothée Chalamet is Taking Over the World

What do King Henry V, a punky high school bad boy, and a Louisa May Alcott character all have in common? 24-year-old, Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet has played each of them. Known for his versatility and his passion for his craft, the young actor has a massive base of extremely dedicated fans. This group of fans is continuously expanding, and for good reason.

Unfortunately for many of them, however, photos of Timothée and actress Eiza González sharing quite a few romantic moments in Cabo San Lucas have recently surfaced. (Thanks a lot, Paparazzi.) While we’re still not quite sure what this means for the future of Timothée’s love life, fans are glad to see him happy after the end of his relationship with Lily-Rose Depp back in April. What is it that makes Timothée so beloved to so many? Here are the 5 reasons why he’s taking over the world.

1. He goes big at the box office.

Timothée has appeared in numerous popular films like Interstellar and Men, Women & Children. He took a major step into the spotlight in 2017 with his heartfelt, heartbreaking embodiment of Elio Perlman in Call Me By Your Name. The film has brought in close to $42 million worldwide. The release of Little Women in 2019 meant further success for Chalamet, grossing over $209 million globally. He’s also acted in Beautiful Boy, Hot Summer Nights, and Netflix’s The King. Of course, no list would be complete without Lady Bird, the genesis of his adorable friendship with Saoirse Ronan.

2. His style is impeccable.

Have you seen his fits? From a tie dyed overall-jumpsuit hybrid to a vibrant monochromatic suit, Timothée has yet to show us a style he can’t pull off. The star even styles himself, demonstrating his creativity beyond film. He was also instrumental in curating outfits for his character, Laurie, in Little Women.

3. He’s just like us. (Okay, maybe not just like us.)

Timothée has been upheld as a relatable icon for his nervousness during interviews. When appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in 2017, he started off the conversation by addressing the audience. “I feel so bad for all you guys. You were waiting in line outside, you saw Jessica Chastain, and now you’re like ‘Who the hell is this guy?’” Oh, Timothée. Doesn’t he know his self-deprecation only makes us love him even more? He has also discussed his excitement about working with Emma Watson in Little Women after growing up in the heyday of the Harry Potter franchise. If you’re not yet convinced of his relatability, there’s always this video.

4. He has a past that’s definitely worth looking into.

A graduate of the renowned Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Timothée’s career has been in the making for quite a while now. It was here he created and executed the utter masterpiece that is “Statistics.” In this 2.5 minute video experience, “your boy Lil Timmy Tim” raps mostly about himself and his teacher with just a couple of references to z-tests and probability. (For this, we send Ms. Lawton our deepest gratitude.)

Laguardia was also the birthplace of Timothée’s iconic Rising Stars performance from 2012, in which he truly unleashed the power of “Lil Timmy Tim.” After high school, Timothée moved on to New York University. (Some credit the actor with the initiation of a small chlamydia outbreak during his year at NYU, although this theory is far from proved.)

5. He’s a trendsetter.

If you’ve been on Tik Tok at all over the past few months, you’ve probably seen people dancing in slow motion to Melanie Martinez’s “Play Date.” Many video creators have used this trend to imitate Timothée’s isolations from a party scene in Call Me By Your Name. Fans have also used Tik Tok to recreate this video of Timothée lip syncing to Lil Uzi Vert’s “SideLine Watching (Hold Up)” on the French talk show Quotidien.
