As restrictions slowly begin to ease across the country, the unknowns of the virus continue to linger. The possibility of reinfection and immunity rates information remains unclear, and numerous health officials expect another surge of infections. Meanwhile, COVID-related deaths in the U.S. have exceeded 100,000 and unemployment reached 41 million people. White House Heath Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci stated on Wednesday that, while a second wave is not inevitable, another outbreak in 2020 is extremely probable.
In an interview with CNN, Fauci stated that it could be avoided if counties and states open up “correctly”, in guidance with the CDC and Health Advisory’s precautions. He also urged citizens “…don’t start leapfrogging over the recommendations of some of the guidelines because that’s really tempting fate and asking for trouble.”
On a slightly better note, it appears that the steam has run out on the anti-lockdown protests. Previously, states where anti-lockdown protests were taking place saw a sharp rise in the number of positive cases, with 70 new cases in Wisconsin patients who took part in the protests. As we continue into the next several weeks, how the populace adheres to state, local, and federal ordinance will be a good indicator of how we as a nation will go about navigating the new normal of a post-Coronavirus world. We want to know what you think about the Coronavirus and how the world is responding.
Check out the poll below to let us know if you think there will be a second wave of COVID-19.
