How Much Internalized Misogyny Do You Have?

The patriarchy runs on racism, homophobia, sexism — basically the patriarchy looks down on anything that deviates from “old-fashioned, acceptable” societal norms.

One of the  patriarchy’s biggest achievements is how easily it turns women against each other, resulting in many subtle internalized misogynistic microagressions among women, against women. How much internalized misogyny have you inherited?

  • Question of

A man tells you, “You’re not like other girls.” What do you think?

    • That’s so sweet!
    • What about me makes him say that?
    • No thank you.
    • I try not to be.
  • Question of

What do your friendships look like?

    • I way prefer having guy friends.
    • A good mix of people!
    • Women are for friendships, men are for sex.
    • Girls are a lot of drama…
  • Question of

You meet an unmarried 45 year old woman who doesn’t have kids. What’s your first impression?

    • I automatically feel sorry for her. No kids and no marriage? She must be lonely.
    • I hope she’s happy, but I also hope I don’t end up like her.
    • I don’t assume anything.
    • Aren’t these women, like, “spinsters” or repressed lesbians?
  • Question of

Do you criticize women who wear revealing clothing and too much makeup?

    • Yes, who needs to show that much skin?
    • Well it depends on the scenario.
    • What does it matter what someone else looks like to me?
    • I don’t really associate with these women.
  • Question of

Do you criticize women for not putting enough effort into their appearance?

    • Yes, why not just look presentable?
    • Again, it depends on the scenario!
    • What does it matter what someone else looks like to me?
    • I don’t really associate with these women either.
  • Question of

What do you think about a woman who doesn’t remove her body hair?

    • I mean, it’s not my thing, but I guess it’s okay? Not my thing though.
    • If it’s not my body why should I have an opinion on it?
    • Depends on where the hair removal is/isn’t happening…
    • Honestly, I think it’s kind of gross…
  • Question of

How do you feel when a woman is vocally open about her sexuality?

    • That’s great for her, but why does she have to be so vocal about it?
    • That’s liberating!
    • Honestly it makes me uncomfortable.
    • Depends if it’s Pride Month or not.
  • Question of

Have you ever felt obligated to ensure a male partner climaxes during sex but then don’t demand the same treatment for yourself?

    • Yeah, that’s just how it goes.
    • Well, yeah, but sometimes I do actually orgasm/enjoy it anyway!
    • No. If I don’t orgasm then why should he?
    • Luckily I’ve gotten really good at faking it.
  • Question of

No matter everything good in your life have you ever still suffered feelings of hopelessness due to just not feeling “pretty enough”?

    • Yes.
    • Sometimes…
    • No.
    • This hits me in the heart.
