The search engine has revolutionized the way we think about information. It has fundamentally altered how we ask questions and how we decide who to trust when seeking out the answers to those questions. Think about how many times you turn to the search bar on your phone or computer each day. How many tablespoons are in a cup? Why is everyone talking about Pete Davidson? What is the best way to house train my dog?

The purpose of the search engine is essentially to provide you with the information you need. However, there are numerous niches in this market that companies have stepped in to fill. Each search engine offers a different experience to the user, giving them something customizable amidst the jumble of the internet. Some might promise to protect privacy; others might donate ad revenue towards notable causes.

While many devices come equipped with a default search engine, users can select their own by using browser extensions. These handy tools can be used for a wide variety of functions, although personalizing the search experience is one of the most impactful uses.

Oddly enough, most people are extremely passionate about their search engines. In my mind, the engine you choose to help you navigate the craziness of the interwebs can say a lot about you.
